Exercises on the generalities of numerical functions in the third grade are interesting. Indeed, these exercises deal with the notion of image and antecedent and also with the exploitation of the curve of a function.
Exercise #1:
Translate the following sentences (and vice versa..) using simple scripts:
- f(2) = 4
- The curve of the function f passes through the point A(4; -1).
- The ordinate of the point with abscissa 4 on the curve C of g is 2.
- The graphical representation of the function h intersects the y-axis at the point of ordinate 3.
- The curve representing the function k passes through the origin.
- The curve C representing the function g is above the x-axis between the points
of abscissa -4 and 1.
Exercise 2 numerical functions :
In the reference frame below, we note f the function represented by its graph.
- Verify, by placing the point P (-7; -3) in the reference frame, that it belongs to the curve. Then complete the column in the table below corresponding to this point.
- Place in the reference frame the point Q belonging to the curve knowing that its abscissa is -2. Complete the column of the table corresponding to this point.
- Place in the reference frame the point R belonging to the curve knowing that its ordinate is 8 and its abscissa negative. Complete the column of the table corresponding to this point.
- Place in the reference frame, two points S and T of your choice belonging to the curve. Complete the columns of the table corresponding to these points.
Points | P | Q | R | S | T |
Abscissa | x = ……… | x = ……… | x = ……… | x = ……… | x = ……… |
Ordinate | y = ……… | y = ……… | y = ……… | y = ……… | y = ……… |
Relationship: f(x) = y | f (….) = ….. | f (….) = ….. | f (….) = ….. | f (….) = ….. | f (….) = ….. |
- Solve the following questions graphically (leave the construction lines visible).
What is the image of – 2 by f ?
What is the value of f (- 1 ) ?
What is the antecedent of – 3 ?
Solve graphically f (x) =7 .
Which number has as image – 4 ?
What is the value of f ( – 5)?
