A math test on relative numbers in fifth grade.
Relative numbers are numbers consisting of positive and negative numbers. These negative numbers are noted with a (-) sign and positive numbers are noted with a (+) sign. These are larger than zero. The number zero is also both positive and negative.
This proctored assignment on relative numbers involves the following concepts:
- comparison of relative numbers;
- placement of points on a graduated line;
- abscissa of a point on a graduated line;
- Arrange relative numbers in ascending and descending order;
- point placement in an orthonormal plane;
- read the coordinates of a point in a frame of reference.
Control over relative numbers and benchmark.
Course Question:
Draw an orthogonal reference frame by specifying the name of each axis, the name of the point of intersection of these 2 axes.
Exercise 1.
The following points and abscissas are given:
A( 4.5 ) B( – 6.5 ) C( – 3 ) D( – 0.5 )
1. Place these points on the graduated line below:
Exercise 2.
1) Arrange these 10 relative numbers in ascending order.
1,2 – 0,4 – 0,1 0,8 – 0,45 0,65 – 1,3 1 – 1 – 1,31
2) Complete with < or >:
– 3…… – 2,7 0,9 …… 0,4 – 1,2 …… – 1,7 – 0,5 …… 0,1 – 6,7 …… – 5,6
Exercise 3.
1) Give the coordinates of the points :
A( ; )
B( ; )
C( ; )
D( ; )
E( ; )
2) Place the points
F( – 1,5 ; – 2,5 )
G( 0 ; – 3 )
H(2,5 ; 0 )
I( – 0,5 ; 3,5 )
